The Brown Ale update

2 last updated: 2 months ago

The following article will take you through a step-by-step guide on the new features of the Brown Ale (1.9) update.

Calibration

As before, Calibration will be available from the Home/Settings menu. Keep in mind to calibrate the machine as often as you can - but at least once after every 3 brewings.

After you have chosen Calibration, four notification windows will appear. You can skip them by pressing “Skip all”, but we highly recommend to read them carefully at least for the first 3-5 occasions of calibration.

The first four panels will include information about the calibration: to empty the machine (including the false bottom); the need for calibration; the process of the new, two-phased calibration and a reminder of preparations. After pressing “Done” on every window, you will receive a box in which you can type how much water will you use up for the primary calibration. This amount must be between 7000-10000 grams of water. If the number is in this range, the window will turn green and you can continue. If it is not, the window will turn green.

After pressing “Set”, a window will remind you to pour in the previously set amount of water.
IMPORTANT: Only press “Done” after you have poured the water inside the boiling tank.
After pressing “Done” the primary calibration phase will start.
IMPORTANT: Do not touch the machine during the calibration phase.
If the Calibration was successful, you will be directed onwards. If not, calibration ends and you need to restart the process.
When primary calibration ended, the secondary calibration phase starts. In this, you need to add exactly 2000 grams (or 2 liters) of water to the boiling tank. If you’ve added the water and pressed “Done” the secondary calibration process starts.
IMPORTANT: Do not touch the machine during the calibration phase.
If the Calibration was successful, you will be directed onwards. You will find a “Drain” button. After pressing it, you can start draining the remaining water any time by long pressing (app. 3 seconds) the button on the left side of the machine.

If calibration was unsuccessful, it ends and you need to restart the process.

Cooling

Our previous promise of cooling to a given temperature is now realized.
To cool to given temperature, you will need to add you chosen temperature in the recipe, before brewing and after adjusting hopping temperatures. If you decide not to add a given temperature, the Brewie will cool down the wort to water inlet +5°C. If you chose a temperature lower than that, it will cool down the wort to water inlet +5°C.

IMPORTANT: before brewing, check if you are using Celsius or Fahrenheit - you can check it in Menu/Units.

Draining

From now on, draining after brewing will take the following course:
When the brewing process is ready, you will be given two options: “Drain all” or “Leave sediment”. As recently, whichever option you choose, you can start the draining by long pressing the Drain button at the left side of the machine.
If you wish to pause the draining, you can also do that by long pressing the Drain button at the left side of the machine.
If you have chosen “Leave sediment” program, you can drain the remaining sediment from Home/Extras with the “Drain all” program.
IMPORTANT: simply pressing the drain button will not start any draining processes - you have to have chosen a draining program to do that.

Cleaning

From now on, three different cleaning options will be available.
You can choose the preferred cleaning program from Home/Extras.
If you have chosen “Short” or “Sanitizing” cleaning, you can tick out a checkbox to use automatic water inlet, or you can leave it empty to use manual water inlet.

“Full clean” is only available with automatic water inlet.
IMPORTANT: draining is part of all cleaning programs with automatic water inlet, but is not part of cleaning programs with manual water inlet. In the latter cases, you will be able to drain the remaining water from Home/Extras.
During every phases of the cleaning programs, the display will show what is needed from you at a given phase.
IMPORTANT: use cleaning tablets only with the “Full clean” option, and only when you are instructed by the machine’s display!

Unclogging

You can reach the unclogging program from Home/Extras. Unclogging will use manual water inlet and consists two options: one for each bigger tank.
After choosing the unclogging program, you will receive a starting window, which gives you the most important information about the unclogging process.
IMPORTANT: before starting the unclogging process, make sure that both tanks are empty (including the false bottom).

If both tanks are empty, pour 5-5 liters of clear water to both tanks.
Start unclogging every time with the mashing tank, and remove any appearing materials manually.
Unclogging of one tank takes up 20 seconds.
Repeat the program until water flow is continuous.
After the mashing tank, unclog the boiling tank and remove any appearing materials manually.
Repeat the program until water flow is continuous between the two tanks.

You can remove the remaining water with the "Drain all" program from Home/Extras

cheers!
