CLEANING IN GENERAL

Brewie is not only automated in brewing, but also have built-in cleaning programs that helps you easily clean out the machine without making a mess.

Brewie must be cleaned in the following instances:

  • Before starting your first brew
  • After brewing
  • If you wish to put Brewie away for at least a week
  • If you haven’t used Brewie for at least a week

Keep in mind that with Brewie, you are manufacturing a beverage for human consumption - which needs great care regarding hygiene!

The following programs are for cleaning the Brewie. Please, keep in mind to always wash the hop cages and the false bottom (manually or by washing machine) and the draining hose as well to make sure that all the equipment is ready for your next brew.

FIRST SAFETY CLEAN

The First safety clean is an obligatory program before even starting your first brew, as a precaution. The First safety clean will pop-up after first turning on the machine, and is not avoidable. Skipping this step may cause serious errors and damages in the system! As these would be the result of improper use, we won’t be able to repair it under the warranty!

Before starting the program, please check if:

  • Hoses are connected
  • No ingredients or cages in the tanks and containers
  • No false bottom in the machine
  • 15 liters of drinking water in the boiling tank

Press Safety Cleaning program and follow the instructions.

  1. Press Start cleaning
  2. Prepare for draining

If you were not able to finish the first safety cleaning, don’t worry. Choose Home/ Extras/Short clean - this program will technically substitute the first safety clean - and you can choose manual and automatic water inlet too.

CLEANING PROGRAMS

Brewie has three built-in cleaning programs, the Short clean, the Sanitizing clean and the Full clean. Remember, that these cleaning programs will clean out the interior of the machine but will not wash away any sediments on the walls of the tanks - they must be cleaned manually. Follow all instructions on the display to make sure that the cleaning program will finish successfully.

Short clean
Short cleans can be chosen with automatic or manual water inlet. The clean rinses out the inner system of the machine, cleaning out fast any remaining gunk from the previous brew. Always clean the Brewie with a short clean, once you have finished a brew, as soon as you have done with preparing for fermentation. Keep in mind not to leave the machine unattended, since all gunk from the walls of the tanks must be scrubbed down with a non-abrasive sponge - Brewies arrive with one, to make sure you have the appropriate equipment for cleaning

Full clean
The Full clean program can also be started with automatic or manual water inlet. It always starts with a Short clean cycle, and follows up with a thorough rinsing and washing, with washing tablets. The program keeps up for more than two hours, during which it uses water around ~70°C to utilize the ingredients of the washing tablets and get rid of all remnants in the interior system. The Full clean program should be used once after every 5 brews, or every time you’d like to put away the Brewie for a few days or use again after some time. The program will tell you when and when use the cleaning tablets - if the original tablets that arrived with the Brewie has been used up, you can always use any standard washing machine tablets. Keep in mind not to leave the machine unattended, since all gunk from the walls of the tanks must be scrubbed down with a non-abrasive sponge - Brewies arrive with one, to make sure you have the appropriate equipment for cleaning.

Sanitizing clean
Just as the short clean, it can be used with manual and with automatic water inlet. The sanitizing clean uses water on ~90°C which makes sure that even the most stubborn contamination is eliminated. Sanitizing clean is the nuclear option of all cleans - use it, when you feel any smell or taste that should indicate that the interior system is not entirely clean or when you have not used Full clean for a while (even between brews or when the Brewie was put away for a while). Be careful not to burn yourself with the hot water! Keep in mind not to leave the machine unattended, since all gunk from the walls of the tanks must be scrubbed down with a non-abrasive sponge - Brewies arrive with one, to make sure you have the appropriate equipment for cleaning.

EXTRA CLEANING EQUIPMENT

Brewie provides you with a sponge and washing tablets for an easier cleaning experience. Please, always use these equipments to make sure that all cleaning is finished as they are supposed to.
The sponge is needed to manually scrub away any remaining gunk from the walls of the tanks - make sure that when the machine instructs you, all dirt is scrubbed away. If the sponge has been used too many times, feel free to change it to any other non-abrasive sponge.
To clean the hop tanks more easier, you might want to use a glass wash brush.
If cleaning tablet are all used up, you can replace them with any kind of cleaning tablets for washing machines.
